Made by a Fabricista: Wild Prints

Lately I’ve become a big fan of animal prints and I feel like they should be mixed in within every wardrobe. For this look I decided to create a set using this animal print challis. This is a great fabric that I feel is very transitional between seasons. It has both a nice hand and drape; it also doesn’t wrinkle as easily. I was able to pack this for my vacation and not need to do much steaming afterwards.

I decided to make this look as we are now in August, and I felt like it would be the perfect transitional piece.

Another great thing is that these can be worn with other pieces as well to create an entire new look. For the pants I used the Simplicity x Mimi G #S9114. The modifications were only to slightly lengthen since I am taller than the size it was drafted. The pattern has front pleats which works well with the fabric. The fabric was easy and fun to sew as well.

I wanted an oversized look for the top portion. For this I made the Friday Pattern Company Ilford Jacket. It’s a unisex oversized jacket style that worked perfectly for the look I was trying to achieve. It can be used as a top or a light jacket for the cooler nights.

The overall look is chic comfort. Something that I can mix and pair with other garments, also it is super comfortable. I feel like I am wearing lounge clothing. Like most people being the house during the pandemic I got adjusted to wearing more comfortable lounge clothing. This set achieves that for me while still being dressed. The neutral tones in the print are great because they can be paired with a pop of color in accessories.

For my look I paired them with my DIY cage bag and handmade leather sandals that I created. I incorporated a few different animal prints in the way I accessorized.
