Made by a Fabricista: The Perfect Vacation Dress
You ever make one of those dresses you can’t wait to wear? Well this is the one. I’m prepping for an upcoming very overdue vacation and I wanted to make clothes that were cute, comfortable and functional. This dress hit every mark for me and it’s all thanks to this stretch satin twill!
There aren’t enough words to describe this fabric and how much I love it. When shopping for fabric online you have to look at composition and hope it’s true to form. I have yet to be disappointed!
This fabric has a bit of stretch which wasn’t needed for this dress but just made it even more comfortable. It sews beautifully and moves with a bounce that’s perfect for this style.
I made this dress using Vogue V1558 with lots of pattern alterations.
-Removed the seam from the front bodice by folding the bodice front pattern under 1.5” where the seam should be.
-Faced the neck back
-Changed the style of the pleats
-Added a back zipper
-Added 10.5” to the width of the sleeve and remove 7” from the length.
-For the skirt, I pleated the front and back prior to placing on the fabric to cut.
-Removed 11” from the length
-Added side seam pockets
-Added two layers of gathered ruffles.
First layer 8”wide 60” long
Second layer 8” wide 72” long
Chandler’s dress was drafted.

Wow! That is a lot of pattern changes; it looks nothing like the original. You are a designer. The dress is beautiful. Your daughter must be delighted to have a dress to match.
