Made By A Fabricista: Summer Feels

I feel like it’s been such a long time since my last post, don’t you think? Time is however still flying buy and we are almost to the end of summer and to close it on a high note I am bringing you two looks and they are super cool, fun summer looks.

For the first look I used this beautiful challis/rayon, the color palette is what attracted me to choosing this print. The black font is covered with orange, white, peach, a burgundy and two shades of green palm leaves, screaming summer. The hand on this fabric is super soft, while it has a nice body to it, it drapes amazingly. Needless to say that I was excited to work with it!

For the top I used Simplicity 8549 view C. This pattern showcases trendy bra tops or bralettes in three length, shoulder straps and closure variations. The version I used C can be treated as a faux bustier and ties in the back with a generous size bow. I love this tops as it fully lined and I used a black broadcloth. It is a simple top, I cut a size large and the only adjustment I made was that I lengthen the pattern to cover my mid-section.

For the skirt I used a NewLook pattern N6640. I am head over hills for this skirt. While I am a separates lover I am not so much a skirts fan, but this is the second time I have made this skirt, you have to believe that there is something about it (laughing). Yes, it is sexy and flirty and my husband said that I should have it in every color. This pattern also offers three versions and I went with view B, which is just a shorter version of view A. The highlight of this asymmetrical skirt is the front rushing on the left thigh that you obtain when creating a casing for the ties with the seam allowance. It also call for a zipper on the left side and a faced waist band. I was afraid that the design would be lost in the print, well it actually complement the print charmingly.

Would I make these two pieces again? Absolutely!

I can see this look with worn with a large hat, some open flats sipping on a Pina colada watching the sunset, yes someone is in a desperate need of a vacation anywhere!

For my second look I also chose a challis/rayon (my favorite fabric to work with). This fabric with a fuchsia font showcases the prettiest flowers in a green and brown combo and the white makes for a great accent bringing it all together. This fabric is light as a feather and the drape is marvelous.

I have been on a duster mode recently and this fabric definitely called for one, well this patter is really a kimono. I chose a simplicity pattern 8533 which offers four views with front and sleeves variations. I have been wanting to make this pattern for a while now particularly drawn to view A. What was I thinking only ordering two and a half yard of this beautiful fabric? This view in a large called for at least 3 yards. Dilemma, decision, decision! I really wanted the sleeves, hence I sacrificed the length and I must admit that the result is still pretty spectacular. I can see this being a grab and go piece to many events such as parent teacher meeting, girl’s brunch, and a day at the mall, even date night, wait! What? What year are we in? This is about to most likely for some zoom meetings (hahaha).

I cut a size large and chose to skip the front ties and the elastic in the sleeves. This is also a simple straightforward Kimono a piece that I plan on wearing every chance I get.
