Made By A Fabricista: Spring Ahead

Happy Spring! We have finally made it into my favorite season which happens to also be my birthday season. I feel like the New Year really starts in the spring season as everything comes back alive, and we all feel refreshed.

So, for this post I created two separate looks to encompass my spring vibes.

This first look I dared myself to create a look using two different prints. I don’t work with prints often, but I had been really inspired lately by fellow Fabricista Marcia (keechiibstyle) who just has a magical way with mixing her prints.

For this I used two different print jersey knits of 2yds each and McCall’s Pattern M8238 which allows for easy color blocking but in this case print mixing. The fabric requirements call for a 2 way stretch but this knit worked just fine for the pattern. I love the contrast between the two prints. This is the perfect spring style but can also but transitioned into summer as well.

I did view C which had a high slit in the center. Initially I planned to make the long-sleeved version but didn’t have enough to make the second sleeve long, so I ended up cropping it which I am happy with the outcome. The pattern calls for a hook and eye closure, but I switched to snaps which I feel like would be easier when wearing.

All together It’s a soft but fluid look perfect for a Spring Day out. I have a few remnants left of the fabric and plan to make some undies out of it later!

My second look I used this gorgeous light colored stretch twill Magenta which I ordered 3 yards, which is one of my favorite colors, but I don’t get to wear it enough. I created McCall’s M8203. Working with this fabric was a little tricky because it frays easily, so I would highly suggest that you want to edge finish the raw edges. The best way would be to use an overlock/serger machine. However, if you don’t have one on hand you can do a zig-zag stitch of the edge of raw edges. Also, sometimes it’s helpful to carefully use fray check as well.

I loved the ruffle detail along the neckline which attracted me to the pattern. This fabric was very light weight and perfect match for the pattern. The fabric also makes it a very comfortable wear since it has slight stretch to it. The drape of the fabric is nice which adds to aesthetic to the design. With my two new looks I am spring ready!
