Made by a Fabricista - Part I - Women's History Month Collaboration using Linen
Happy Saturday Loves!
I am excited to collaborate this month with my sew students and work colleagues on my upcoming blogpost. This month is a 2 part series as I wanted to share our pattern information with details in the first blogpost and capture photos with our makes in the second blogpost.
Our Sewing class is hosted by our Community School held in the same building and I have the pleasure of teaching my colleagues and any ladies in the community to sew. This has been so therapeutic for us ladies especially after a long day in the classroom working in Middle school.
Meet Ms. Clark, the comedian who makes us laugh while sewing no matter what we are going through. She has been sewing with me since the first day I started the sewing class (2018). Ms. Clark selected RED linen to sew a 2 piece set using Vogue 9375. Unfortunately this color is sold out but here is wide selection of other colors available here.
She will be making view A vest and view C crop pants and will be modifying the pants based on her body type. This color is perfect as she plans to rock her make to her sorority events. Ms. Clark is absolutely an inspiration and stunt her makes in the hallways with confidence and style.
She will let the world know that "I made this garment I am rocking!" She is always proud of every garment she creates no matter the outcome with mistakes and all. She is wearing the blackwood cardigan that she made last December using a red ponte knit that she purchased from FabricMart.
Meet Ms. Clemmons our Test Chairperson and Innovation Specialist who runs our Media Center at our school. She is definitely a go-getter and has been sewing for the past 6 months with us. Ms. Clemmons loves the color green (her birthstone) and will be making a suit with emerald green and black linen.
She will be using Simplicity 9059 View B, a pattern I made twice here and for the pants Simplicity 8885 View C. She is the most laid back, organized one in the group and keeps our group focus on our sewing task during our session. She absolutely loves shopping at Fabric Mart since I introduced her to the great deals and keep me updated on the sales each week. She is wearing the blackwood cardigan that she sewed without any assistance using a brown Ponte knit she purchased at Fabricmart.
For the jacket, Ms. Clemmons will be making the size 18 with no modifications to the pattern and the pants a size 16 with minor modifications to the crotch. She absolutely loves palazzo pants and linen and has made 2 pairs of pants since she started sewing. I can't wait to see this finish look as I am excited to make a pair of pants using this pattern sometime this year.
To bring it all together, I will be making a MAXI dress with a beautiful bright tan linen.
To be quite honest, I have NOT decided which pattern I will be using and will be making a decision this weekend whether to hack the odgen cami top pattern into a dress or use Simplicity 8909 View D top and View C dress. I also will be using the scraps or remaining fabric to make a color block dress if time permits.
We are super excited about our collaboration during Women's History Month with hopes this inspires our school district to offer more Community Sewing programs in our local schools. Sewing has really been therapeutic for all the ladies in the group as we look forward to our sewing therapy session two times a week!
Ms. Rosa far left and Ms. Storr far right are two of the eight ladies in our sewing group who recently started back with us 2 weeks ago. Thank you so much for reading and be sure to stop by in 2 weeks to check out our makes. Don't forget to stop by my Instagram page to check our sewing class session saved in our Highlights. In closing, if you get, give. If you learn, teach." Maya Angelou. Sharing and spreading the joy of sewing one student at a time.
