Made by a Fabricista: Into the Wild Side
Hello, I am so happy to be joining you as a Fabricista!! I absolutely love Fabric Mart’s amazing selection of all of great fabrics with some of the most luxurious fabric you can find at such amazing prices.
Then this happened, so as I was putting my dress together everything was going great, and I definitely felt super confident that I would finish it within the evening. However, at some point and I assume it was when I was trimming my neck seam allowance down to do my under stitching I somehow cut out a big chunk at my shoulder. Without revealing too much I shared on my Instagram stories my dismay, I was horrified! I had no idea what I could do. I considered different mending options, but nothing would be able to give a complete clean finish. So, I sat it to the side for a while until I could come up with an alternative to hide the now hole at the shoulder.
I fell in love with this Animal Print Twill Blouse Weight Woven (SMA3872) and ordered 3 yards. I was amazed at how quickly my fabric arrived which allowed me to get working right away. I decided to try the new early spring Mimi G x Simplicity pattern S9224. The pattern is asymmetric wrap dress pattern with ties which was a pretty easy pattern to sew. My favorite thing about my order was that I was able to get matching thread to go with my fabric without having to guess through the computer screen.
The fabric has a great drape and soft sheen finish even as a twill and would be great for top and dress styles. Also, a good thing to note is that the fabric didn’t fray as easy as expected with most similar fabrics however I did still clean finish my seams with my serger.

To hide the hole, I patched the wrong side with some interfacing and then used the bumble bee applique that I had in my stash and I turned it into a pin and clipped at the shoulder. I actually think it gives it a nice touch for the look and nobody will know my misfortune! I may go back and hand stitch it permanently to the shoulder but for laundering purposes I think the pin will make it easier.
The weather broke and I was able to take my new look out for a spin at the park. The fabric feels so wonderful against my skin, it kept me cool and comfortable all day. I was actually running a lot of errands and I still mostly wrinkle free for the entire day which was a plus! I also had my new bumble bee pal right at my shoulder. ☺

You made a great match between fabric and pattern. Your bee pin is a great solution, so cute, and perfectly placed (just like she landed there!)
Thank you! She really saved the day!
Your dress is so pretty on you. What a very creative save. The pin idea is fabulous because now you can change it up if you like, you might want to add a scarf on some days or I am sure you will think of other things that will make a statement out of that neckline. Thanks for sharing your creativity. Love it.
I love this fabric Jazz! It's so pretty and that dress is beautiful.
