Made by a Fabricista: Destination Dress
Hello my darlings, this 2021 I have chosen to do the most! No need to explain how ecstatic I was to receive the congratulation email about becoming a Fabricista and here I am sharing my first make with you, my “Destination Dress”.
A little history about my love for fabric, some call it hoarder I call it love at first sight, you get the picture? When I laid eyes on this Rayon Challis one of my favorite fabric to work with, it spoke to me and I knew having it was a must. The contrast of the yellow and beige over the blue font is so conspicuous. As I was browsing the website for pattern there she was the Calvin dress by True Bias, I was about to create a match made in heaven.
The Calvin dress pattern is one I have seen around which stayed in the back of mind as a need to make possibility. Let me tell you that, when I received this fabric I was thrilled to have chosen it as it is everything I like to work with, it’s soft, of medium weight with such an amazing drape. It feels so nice against the skin; I will get a lot of wear out of this make.
I shortened the pattern about 3 inches to create this right below the knee look, I did make a cotton toile for the dress and while it was okay, I needed to make some adjustments to the bust very generous allowance due to the drape of this fabric. This pattern is absolutely lovely and so simple but that the beauty of it all. This flattering straight dress features bust darts and calls for quite a bit of bias tape which for some reason I really enjoy making. It hugs nicely while allowing you to move comfortably. I could not be any happier of the result, once you wrap it around, that dress perfectly embraces the body.
While I am not a dress type of girl I have been contemplating adding a wrap dress to my wardrobe and boy, I want more! Besides being a great addition to anyone’s wardrobe, this can be dressed up or down and be perfect for so many events. My favorite feature however is that strap adjustment, this makes the dress and even more functional piece.
Thanks for reading until next time!
