Made By A Fabricista: A Denim Set for Spring
Happy Friday All! I am ecstatic to share my latest make that I had on my to make list for a while. My goal for the month of February was to sew a mini vacation capsule for a trip, but unfortunately I did not get a chance to. I was able to make 3 of the 6 pieces including this denim set. When this beautiful denim fabric arrived, I knew exactly what I wanted to make.
I have been wanting to recreate a linen look I made a few years ago using the Montoya coat pattern with a few adjustments. I created VIEW A without the peplum and lengthened it by 6 inches. Instead of sewing the tie inside the seam of the top like I did here, I wanted to make it separate so that it looks like a jumpsuit. (Read the blogpost here).
Moreover, my body has changed and I needed to cut a size larger so that I can rock it as an open vest or a top tucked in. I love the way it turned out but wish I had extended it by 8 inches instead of 6.
For the pants, I went to my tried and true simplicity 8605 pants pattern and added a center pin tuck which has been my new favorite addition to my pants. Moreover, I sewed down the elastic for the waistband and used a denim top stitching thread. I topstitched the top by adding 2 rows of top stitching thread on the armhole, neckband, and hem.
I really love how the pants came out but wish I had sized up on the hips. I am not worried as I know this summer, I plan to drop a few inches and it will be perfect fit. Overall I am happy with how the set turned out and I love the fact that it looks like a jumpsuit with the tie belt.
I have been under the weather the past week so I did not get a chance to share how I plan to mix and match the set like I usually do. Be sure to stop by my page to see how I rock it with other pieces. I am officially on Spring Break and I am looking forward to some well needed rest and relaxation.
Thanks for reading and be sure to stop by my page to see how I will rock it over my break.

Beautiful Sewing and Fitting!
What a gorgeous set Marica – I am one who can’t get behind the whole jumpsuit trend, but I could so do this! The pin tuck down the front of the pants is inspiring as well, love it!
I love this outfit and I think it looks fabulous on you! I also love ideas about how to bring design changes to tried-and-true patterns (that already fit!) to create something fresh (like with your pintucks in the front of your pants).
So cute great job…… Im going to try making the pants out of a light knit…
Two-piece jumpsuits are so much easier to wear than one-piece, and there is also the option to wear as separates. Great job on fitting and finishing! This is a good look for both a casual outdoor day, as well as an elegant evening. Thanks for posting and inspiring your readers.
Looks great on you and the details are sharp.
Love this!
